The Death of the Millennial Left: From the US to the EU

This teach-in, presented in English, will trace the period which the Platypus Affiliated Society refers to as the „Millennial Left“. In the US, it is marked first by the anti-Iraq war movement which prompted the 2006 formation of the New SDS, then by Occupy Wall Street in 2011, and finally by its last stand in 2016 with the short-lived growth of the DSA surrounding the Bernie Sanders campaign. This discussion examines the influence between American and European Left movements during this period, and the obstacles resulting from their failures that still remain.
